So I have a major secret that I have been keeping…I’m officially headed to AFRICA for Intersession! It is a three week trip to The Gambia and Senegal on the western coast of Africa. We will travel to communities and villages learning the vast differences in culture, exploring local handmade markets, and of course trying the local cuisine! I am so excited and cannot wait to share all of the stories sure to follow from this excursion! In other news the Student Activities Board is sponsoring a trip to New York City this weekend for $50 and I am headed out tonight at midnight! We are spending all day Saturday and depart for campus on Sunday around 11am and I am pumped. There is nothing like NYC this time of year. I’m also trying to cross some people of my shopping list by scoring some steals not deals…stay tuned. Also, today marked the final countdown…literally finals are in two weeks! This semester has flown by and I cannot believe that Thanksgiving is already just a memory! I will keep you posted as this crazy semester winds down!

Hi I’m Mike and this is my new little blog! I am really excited to share what is going on at W&J each week from classes to events and everything in between! There is always a healthy amount of action on campus and so each week I am going to be “Keeping up with the Kampus” so you can spend a few moments and be in the know! Who doesn’t want that?
So this week has been really exciting because it is Up ’til Dawn’s Awareness Week. I know what you’re thinking…what the heck is Up ’til Dawn!? Well, it is actually a program through St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that is on college campuses nationwide to raise awareness and monetary donations for St. Jude patients! In the past 3 years, W&J has raised over $45,000! As part of the Executive Board that plans the events we really wanted to have fun and get the word out this week in fun and creative ways. Along with the standard all campus email stating to keep an eye out for “blue and yellow, blue and yellow” , the colors of UTD, and informational table sits in our eateries we also had some fun. Almost all public restrooms have a small sign above the toilet paper that says “Help Wipe Out Childhood Cancer” and the date of our event which happens to be 11/11…aka join us in “Our Epic Wish to END Childhood Cancer!” We made a giant pyramid of toilet paper on Tuesday outside of The Commons, the cafeteria, which helped carry the message! Today, we “forked” the lawn in front of the infamous George and Tom statue (See Photo Below!) on campus with 132 blue and yellow forks that carried a save the date and can be turned in at an info table for a prize! Legit right? The hope is to get campus buzzing about UTD and have everyone come to the event on November 11th to write letters that are asking for donations to this incredible cause. The event is going to be super exciting and this year will be even more incredible as a St. Jude patient and her family will be joining us! Can’t freaking wait!
Oh also this week, on Tuesday the Spanish club hosted their first Cafecito in Cleveland hall which is the International House. It was soo cool! They not only had Starbucks coffee and awesome cookies (hello awesome), but I got to meet a lot of new people and mingle with some peeps! There were easily over 20 people there and I learned some new words It was at 8pm and I scooted over right after I got back from dinner off campus because it was my friend Shaunna’s birthday! Def worth it! They are going to have more throughout the year so that’s something to look forward too!
It is so nice that the weather gunning it full speed ahead into fall! The leaves here are all starting to change colors and I cannot wait to roll up to the ski lodge and get my study on with a hot apple cider from the Barista…I’m tellin ya Virginia makes a mean spiced cider with a cinnamon stick…legit.
Well I think that is it for my first post! More to come and as fun moments pop up I will be sure to share them with you!
